A typical feature of Jakub Špaňhel's work are cycles that are mostly devoted to a single theme based on the artist's perception of everyday life. He describes his painting style as "expressive impressionism" and likes to say that he always paints things that exist in reality. He manages to captivate both with his inherently expressive painting gesture, as well as by painting with specially made rollers, where he works with a very reduced, repetitive nature of his subjects. Thus, on one hand, we encounter motifs of temple interiors, chandeliers, landscapes, central bank buildings, gas stations, portraits, flowers and butterflies. On the other hand, there are patterns of beer pulliters, crosses, boats, ballerinas, Chimera and John of Nepomuk.

The exhibition entitled "From My Country" by Jakub Špaňhel opens a new exhibition season at the DSC Gallery. Under the telling title, the author presents the themes that are closest to him. "In the exhibition I am devoting myself to my favourite themes, but by devoting myself to them for such a long time, I decided to approach them with a particular lightness this time. I try to capture the essence, the essence of what the rural countryside has brought me. It's not an illustration of it, it's just my feeling about the countryside." Jakub Špaňhel explains.
